Horse gram & Rajma Paratha / Diet Friendly Recipes - 17 / #100dietrecipes

Bored of regular phulka during dieting ? Try this delicious and healthy paratha and make your meal interesting as regular days... Addition of proteins is must during dieting days and I am sure, everyone must be aware of horse gram, an important ingredient which helps in weight loss. Check out my Horse gram and oats murungai keerai adai post to know more about horse gram and its benefits. In today's diet friendly series, I have prepared a diet friendly paratha using horse gram and rajma along with few spices to make it tasty. Finely chopped onions are sauteed along with chillies and horse gram - rajma paste, then combined along with spices and wheat flour to get a flavorful and nutritious paratha. This can be served along with any veg curry or vegetable raita. I served it with beetroot raita in which grated beetroot and finely chopped chillies is mixed with low fat curd and seasoned with salt.

Ingredients :

1/4 Cup Horse gram
1/2 Cup Rajma
1 Big Onion, Finely chopped
2/3 Cup Wheat flour + extra for rolling
1 Green chilli, Finely chopped
1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 Tsp Jeera / Cumin powder
1/4 Tsp Red chilli powder
2 Tbsp Coriander leaves, Finely chopped
2 Tsp Olive oil ( any cooking oil )
Salt to taste

Method :

Wash and soak hose gram and rajma over night.

Pressure cook it for 5 - 6 whistles and switch off the flame.

Once the pressure gets released, drain the water from horse gram n rajma and keep aside to cool.

Heat oil in a pan and add Jeera seeds followed by finely chopped green chillies and onion.

Saute it for half a minute and add turmeric powder.

Meanwhile, grind the cooked horse gram - rajma into fine paste by adding very little water if necessary.

Add the ground paste to the onion mixture and mix well.

Cook for couple of minutes or till the mixture blends well and becomes dry.

Remove from the flame and cool.

Add wheat flour to the mixture followed by red chilli powder, jeera powder, salt and coriander leaves.

Combine all the ingredient and knead it to get a dough.

Divide the dough into 6 equal balls and roll each ball into circular disc ( paratha shape ) using rolling pin.

Sprinkle wheat flour while rolling to avoid stickiness.

Heat tawa, place one rolled paratha and cook on both the sides. ( like regular paratha but with very less oil ).

Once done, remove from the tawa and repeat the process for the remaining rolled paratha.

Serve hot with raita.

Serving Options :

Serve hot with Beet root raita or any raita and veg curry.

Note :

The water which is drained from horse gram and rajma can be used in curries or can be taken as drink by adding salt and pepper.
