Over to Jillu....

Priya :      Love to hear few words about you.

Jillu : About me, I am born and brought up in Chennai. About my family , we are four ,mom, dad ,elder bro. I did my schooling in Neyveli . I have done my B.com and MBA finance. I have worked for an year before marriage. After marriage am a pucca housewife and a busy mom too . I live in Singapore.

Priya :      Please share few words about your blog ?

Jillu : My blog has recipes , as my description of my blog says. It’s the special tasty recipes from my grand ma, my amma and my mamiyar. All of them are great cooks in their own way. So I used to learn cooking from my childhood. I used to make simple dishes at home. Everybody encouraged me. After my marriage, I started to cook in a full -fledged way. So I thought of starting a blog only after marriage. My blog has simple recipes , everyone can try from it.

Priya :  What comes to your mind when you hear the word “sweet“?

Jillu : Kesari, GulabJamun, chakkarapongal. Kesari is my all -time favorite. Before marriage, whenever I am bored , I used to make kesari and eat. My bro used to give me company. He loves it too.

Priya :    Share few of your favourite Restaurants.

Jillu : Favorite restaurants: there is a huge list. Starting from Anjappar, Pizza hut, Rangis, Buhari Hotel,  thalappakkatti , Shogun and few more.

Priya :      Name any two ingredients that you will never miss in most of your recipes.

Jillu : My favorite ingredients are garam masala, coriander leaves.

Priya :      Have you tried any celebrity chef’s recipe? If yes, please share your experience.

Jillu : Yes , I have tried a lot of chef’s recipes. Vah Chef, Damodaran. Here comes the saddest part, my fav Chef Arun Jacob. I was very sad, when I heard his death news. I am a fan of vah chef, he really inspires others to cook. My favorite recipes of him isravadosa, rasamalai.
Dhamoo chef’s chettinad recipes.
Sanjay Kappoor ‘s I have tried few recipes.
All were a massive hit. They all drove interest for me in cooking.

Priya :      Few words about your first cooking experience.

Jillu : I actually don’t remember it. Initially I used to make Dosa when I was small at my home. The shapes of it were a disaster. My bro and dad used to make fun of me.

Priya :      What do you like in my blog and please share your suggestions to improve mine.

Jillu : Priya , one of my blogger friends who used to encourage me by commenting on my recipes. It has been useful always.  I used to admire the way you receive awards and prizes. I like your blog entirely. I have seen most of your recipes. They are all simple and good. The look of your blog is superb. Awesome presentations. I am not a great person to suggest and all. Keep it going! Keep blogging and rocking.

Recipe for the day:

Masala Poli

What a dish it is! I used to have hot masala polis in Krishna sweets. So I thought of giving it a try. It was really very tasty. Side dish is optional. It is not necessary. I served it with Onion Raitha. Any stuffing can be kept inside. We can use any vegetable. A healthy , tasty tiffin.

Ingredients for outer cover:

·         Maida – 1 cup
·         Oil – 3 tsp
·         Water
·         Salt

Ingredients for the stuffing:

·         Potato – 3 boiled
·         Carrot – half minced ( grated can also be used)
·         Onion – 1 minced
·         Ginger garlic paste – ½ tsp
·         Sambar powder – 1 tsp
·         Garam masala – 1 tsp
·         Coriander leaves - chopped

Method :

·         Knead the ingredients for outer cover . Mix maida, oil and salt. After kneading into a soft dough, add the oil and give it a knead and close it and keep it for 2 hrs.
·         Heat oil in a pan, add the minced onion and carrot. Saute it for two minutes.
·         Then add ginger garlic paste. Saute it for another 2 mins.
·         Smash the boiled potatoes and add it. Add sambar powder and salt. Mix it well.
·         After it is cooked nicely, add the chopped coriander leaves and garam masala. Stir it well and keep aside.

·         Take a ball of dough and spread with hand. Keep a ball of stuffing and cover with the dough and seal.
·         Apply oil to a plastic paper, keep the ready ball on it and roll it like chapathi (The plastic and oil prevents it from sticking). Fry on hot tava till it gets golden brown color.

Sere it hot with Raitha!!
