Chow-Chow Kara Kuzhipaniyaram / Chayote Savoury Balls



Cooking Time : 30 Minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1 Chow-chow / Chayote, grated
  • 3 Cups Idly Batter
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 Tsp Urad dal
  • 1 Tsp Channa dal
  • 1 Tbsp Roasted Groundnuts
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut pieces, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Green chillies, finely chopped
  • Few Coriander leaves, chopped


Method :


  • Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, once they starts spluttering, add urad dal followed by channa dal and roasted peanuts.
  • Add the chopped onion and fry them for a minute.
  • Add the chopped chillies and chopped coconut pieces.
  • Fry and add the grated chayote.
  • Close, cook for couple of minutes and remove from the flame.
  • Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Now add this chayote mixture to Idly batter.
  • Add salt and mix well.
  • Heat kuzhipaniyaram pan and pour little oil.
  • Pour the batter in pan cups and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Slowly turn the other side and cook for another couple of minutes.
  • Once it gets cooked n turns crispy, remove from flame.
  • Serve hot.




Serving Options :

Serve with spicy onion chutney or coconut chutney along with sambhar.

Beetroot Idly / Breakfast Recipe


Cooking Time : 25 minutes

Ingredients :
  • 1 Cup Beetroot, grated
  • 2 Green chillies, Finely chopped
  • 2 Cup Idly Batter
  • Few Coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Groundnut, roasted and peeled
  • 1 Tsp Urad dal
  • Salt to taste

Method :

  • Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, once they starts spluttering, add the urad dal followed by roasted groundnuts.
  • Add the grated beetroot and salt.
  • Mix well and cook for a minute.
  • Remove from the flame and mix it in the Idly batter.
  • Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Grease the Idly plates and fill the cups with beetroot batter using ladle.
  • Steam it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove from the flame and Serve hot.




Serving Options :

Serve hot with Coconut chutney or Milagai Podi.

Misal Pav - SNC Challenge 3



Our dec month SNC challenge for south team is on very famous Maharashtra street food
 " Misal Pav ". Never tasted this before in my lifetime but had a lovely opportunity to try this delicious recipe. So have to thank two lovely people... Divya and Meena :)
SNC ( South vs North Challenge)  is an aromatic challenge between north and south team hosted by Divya Pramil from youtoocancookindianfood. She started this amazing event couple of months back and successfully completed two yummy challenges.
And this is our third challenge done by Meena from Random Ramblings and she belongs to North Team. Likewise, north team was challenged by sherin from Kuk's kitchen and their recipe was delicious crispy medu vadas.



Misal pav is a spicy delicious curry made of peas and served with Pav breads and farsans. Very delicious street food and very healthy too...




Ingredients :

  • 200 gms Dried peas
  • 4 Onions, chopped
  • 4 Garlic pods
  • 1/4 inch Ginger piece
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut, grated
  • 1/2 Tsp Jeera
  • 1/2 Tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Garam masala
  • 1/2 Tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Amchoor powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 Tbsp Oil
  • 6 Pav buns
  • 2 Cups Farsans for serving
  • Coriander leaves, chopped for garnishing

Method :

  • Soak the dried peas overnight and pressure cook it for couple of whistles. It should not get overcooked and become mushy.
  • Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a pan and add the onions, fry them for a minute and add the garlic pods followed by ginger and tomatoes.
  • Saute them together and add the grated coconut.
  • Mix well and saute for another couple of minutes.
  • Remove from the flame and cool them completely.
  • Then grind to a fine paste and keep aside.
  • Now heat the same pan by adding the remaining oil and add the jeera.
  • Then add all the masala powders and saute for few seconds. ( Make sure that powders doesn't get burned ).
  • Now add the ground paste and mix well.
  • Add water and salt, cook it for couple of minutes or until the gravy consistency occurs.
  • Add the cooked peas at this stage and mix well.
  • Cook for another couple of minutes and remove from flame.
  • Now add this gravy in a bowl and add the farsans on the top and garnish with chopped onions and coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with Toasted Pav buns.

Egg n Paneer IdlyUpma / Breakfast Recipe


Hi Friends, Hope you all had a great Christmas yesterday!!! We had a lovely drive on Christmas night, enjoyed the city filled everywhere with lights and stars :)

My today's post is on healthy breakfast with the leftover idlis. Idly upma, very simple and easy recipe to prepare and tasty too but my hubby hates this dish. So, I tried little twist with the ingredients of his favorites and served with tomato sauce. He just loved it and asked for an extra spoon. Am really very happy that my trick worked well so planning to try few more recipes with the leftover idlis..Will post them later after trying. Adding egg is optional.. Lots of veggies can also be included in this to make it more tasty n healthy. Perfect breakfast and evening snack to serve with tomato or chilly sauce.



Cooking Time : 20 mins

Ingredients :
  • 8-10 Leftover Idlis
  • 2 onions, Finely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup, Capsicum, yellow
  • 3 Green chillies, Finely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Carrot, Grated
  • 1/2 Cup Paneer, Finely chopped
  • 1 Egg
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tsp Pepper powder
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • Few spring onions, chopped for garnishing

Method :
  • Heat oil in a pan and add the chopped onions.
  • Fry it for a minute and add the chopped chillies.
  • Add the grated carrot and chopped capsicum, saute well and cook for couple of minutes.
  • Add an egg to the veggies and scramble them.
  • Meanwhile, crumble the leftover idlis.  (Soak the idlis in a water for few seconds and crumble them)
  • Add the chopped paneer cubes to the egg-veggie mixture.
  • Now add the pepper powder and salt. Mix well.
  • Add the crumbled idlis and mix well so that the veggies gets mixed with the idlis.
  • Simmer the flame and cook for couple of minutes or until the upma turns dry.
  • Garnish with spring onions and serve hot.



Serving Options :

Serve hot with Tomato sauce or Chilly sauce.

Tomato - Carrot Dosa / Breakfast Recipe


MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS :)


Cooking Time : 20 mins

Ingredients :
  • 2 Carrots
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 2 Cup Dosa batter
  • Salt to taste

Method :
  • Chop the carrots, tomatoes and chillies.
  • Grind them together to a fine paste without adding water.
  • Now add the ground paste to the dosa batter.
  • Add salt and mix well.
  • Heat the dosa tawa and pour the batter using ladle and slowly spread it like a thin circle.
  • Cook for a minute and slowly flip the other side.
  • Once done, remove from flame and serve.


Serving Options :

Serve with Coconut chutney.

Wheat Choco chips Cookies


Ingredients :
  • 1 1/2 Cups Wheat Flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar, powdered
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Cup Choco chips
  • 100 Gms Butter

Method :
  • Sieve wheat flour and baking powder.
  • Add butter and sugar in a separate bowl and beat it using handmixer till it turns light.
  • Add the egg and beat again.
  • Now add the wheat flour little by little and fold.
  • Add the choco chips and mix to form a dough.
  • Meanwhile, pre-heat the oven for 10 mins at  170 degree C.
  • Grease the plate using oil or butter and dust them using wheat flour or use butter paper.
  • Make small balls using the dough, gently press them in a palm and arrange in the plate or tray.
  • Bake it for 10 mins.
  • Once done, remove from the oven and cool completely.
  • Store it in an air tight container and serve.



Serving Options :

Serve with hot Tea or Coffee.

Crispy Ragi Dosa / Breakfast Recipe


Cooking Time : 15-20 mins

Ingredients :
  • 1 Cup Ragi Flour
  • 1/2 Tbsp Rice Flour
  • 2 Cups Water
  • Salt to taste

Method :

Measure Ragi flour n rice flour and add it to a separate bowl.


Add salt and the measured water. Mix well to form a thin batter without any lumps.


Heat the dosa tawa ( Non - stick ) and slowly drizzle the ragi batter on the hot tawa using ladle.

Now reduce the flame to medium and smear oil. Cook for couple of minutes and slowly flip the other side. 



Since it's a thin crispy dosa, cook for just a minute after flipping.
once done, remove from tawa and serve hot.

Serving Options :

Serve hot with coconut chutney or onion chutney.

Peanut Butter Cookies



Cooking Time : 30 minutes

Ingredients :
  • 1 Cup Maida / All purpose flour
  • 1/4 Cup Peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar, powdered
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 Tsp Baking powder

Method :

Sift All purpose flour and baking powder in a seperate bowl.


Add the powdered sugar and butter to the flour.


Now add the measured peanut butter.


Mix well and add the oil.


Prepare dough by adding milk little by little


Divide the dough into small balls.
Grease the plate with oil or butter and dust it with flour or use butter paper and arrange the prepared balls.


Gently press the balls with fork.


Bake them for 10 mins at 170 degree C in a preheated oven.


Once done, remove and cool completely.
Store in an air tight container.

Serving Options :

Enjoy this melting cookies with hot coffee or Tea.
