Chicken Fry


Sundays are incomplete without a non vegetarian dish for us and having a chicken lover at home, I need to prepare atleast rasam rice and our traditional chicken fry to get a complete satisfaction. So, sharing our traditional and easy chicken fry recipe which goes delicious with sambhar rice, rasam rice and curd rice. This can also be served with Roti.


Ingredients :

500 gms Chicken, cut into pieces
3 Onions, Finely chopped
2 Tomatoes, finely chopped 
1 Tbsp Ginger garlic paste 
1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder 
1 Tsp Red chilli powder 
1 1/2 Tsp Coriander powder 
1/2 + 1/2 Tsp Pepper powder 
Salt to taste 
1/2 Cup Water 
1 1/2 - 2 Tbsp Oil 
2 Bay leaves
1/2 inch Cinnamon stick 
1 Star anise
Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method :

Wash and clean the chicken pieces. Keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan or kadai and add bay leaves followed by star anise and cinnamon stick.

Fry and add the finely chopped onions along with ginger garlic paste.

Saute till the raw smell of ginger garlic paste goes off and the color of onion changes.

Add the finely chopped tomatoes and saute till it turns soft.

Now add red chilli powder followed by coriander powder, turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp of pepper powder and the required amount of salt.

Mix well and cook till the oil separates from the gravy.

Add the washed chicken and mix well.

Add the measured amount of water and cook till the chicken gets cooked.

Add the remaining pepper powder and cook it for another couple of minutes.

Once done, garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

Serve hot.


Serving Options :

Serve with Hot plain rice, Sambhar rice, Rasam rice, Curd Rice and Roti.
