Goan Varan Bhaat

Goan Varan Bhaat is a traditional and famous dish which is prepared during Ganesh chathurthi and also called as Satvik dal. Maharastrian cuisine also has Varan bhaat but the major difference is the addition of coconut. Goan Varan contains ground coconut paste, where Maharastrian varan doesn't include coconut. Varan is nothing but a lentil curry and Bhaat is rice. So, this lentil curry is served with hot rice. Instead of preparing plain dal for kids, this is an excellent option as it flavorful and tasty. This is also a perfect dish during fasting days as it doesn't have Garlic and Onion. Simple and delicious curry goes perfect with spicy side dish like Potato fry, Yam fry etc..
