Diet Friendly Baked Masala Vada / Diet Friendly Recipe - 36 / #100dietrecipes

Wanna enjoy crispy and healthy Masala vada during dieting days ?

Here is my diet friendly version of our traditional crispy vada with a twist of adding healthy ingredients. This is a perfect guilt free snack as it is prepared using 6 varieties of protein rich ingredients and baked instead of frying. Little amount of olive oil is used to brush the vadas to make it crispier like the regular ones. After so many attempts in setting oven temperature, got the perfect crispy and tasty masala vada with the given below temperature and timing. This goes perfect with any variety chutney along with green tea or regular tea.

Ingredients :

1/2 Cup Channa dal
1/4 Cup Toor Dal
1/4 Cup Horse gram
1/4 Cup Green gram
1/4 Cup Black Chickpeas
1/4 Cup Lobia
1 Big Onion, Finely chopped
3 Green chillies, Finely chopped
1 Green chilli, finely chopped
1 inch Ginger piece
Salt to taste
1 Tsp Saunf / Perunjeeragam
2 Tsp Olive Oil for brushing

Method :

Wash and soak channa dal along with toor dal, horsegram, black chickpeas, green gram and lobia for 4 - 5 hours.

Drain the water and grind it coarsely along with green chillies and ginger.

Transfer it to a bowl and add the finely chopped onion followed by salt, green chilli and saunf.

Mix well and make equal sized balls. ( approx 15 - 20 balls ).

Take one ball and gently flatten it using palm. ( Vada should not be too thick or thin ).

Repeat the process for the remaining balls.

Place a baking sheet on a baking tray and arrange the vadas.

Bake it for 12 minutes in a pre heated oven at 180 degree C.

Flip the other side carefully and bake it for another 12 minutes.

Once done, remove from the oven and brush it with little oil on one side.

Change the setting to grill mode and grill it for 3 - 4 minutes.

Flip the other side, brush it again with little oil and grill it again for 3 - 4 minutes.

Grill till the vadas turn crispy and light brown color.

Once done, remove from the oven and serve hot.

Serving Options :

Serve hot with Green tea or chutney.

Note :

Brushing oil before grilling is to make the vadas crispy on top.
Adjust oil according to the texture and crispness required.
